These characters were inspired by figurines I found at the thrift store. As I eyed these angels on the thrift store shelf, I thought “These look like aliens!” Their eyes were bulbous and black and their facial features were cartoony. Honestly, they were nothing like what most people traditionally think of when thinking of angels. Separately, I was listening to a podcast where they explained how, in Catholicism, angels are always male. I never knew this before despite being raised Christian. So I thought, “What if someone encountered these angels? Would they think they are angels?” As life teaches us, things aren’t always what they seem.
