Let them Eat, Cake Heads

"Let Them Eat, Cake Heads" is a traditional art piece by Laura Lemur. Painted with acrylic and lined with black-inked liners, it depicts two "odd" characters- both of whom have heads made of cake.

I enjoy creating art inspired by my dreams and this is a dream-inspired piece. While I don’t remember everything about the dream, I remember two figures with heads made of slices of cake. Their heads were also expanding and their demeanor was menacing. It was too “trippy” not to illustrate. Likewise, one of my favorite eras of history (for aesthetic purposes) is the Rococo era. I wanted these two characters’ outfits to look as decadent as their heads, and the Rococo era (in my humble opinion) screams decadence/indulgence. Furthermore, I wanted their countenance, although expressionless, to seem like they were somewhat disapproving of your presence. It’s their meal and you’re essentially interrupting it.
